Getting Driver Education and Safety (D.E.S) in the Shoalhaven
D.E.S is a not for profit organisation formed by like-minded people to promote Driver Training and Road Safety in the Shoalhaven.
We use Qualified Trainers and Instructors to deliver free or subsidised training to those who cannot afford it. We are also establishing a Learner Driver Mentor Programme ( LDMP ) with volunteers who assist Learners to complete their 120 hours of supervision.
Our ultimate aim is to build a state of the art Driver Training Centre in the Shoalhaven with both training area and classroom facilities.
We intend using both Government Grants and Private and Business sponsorship to enable us to provide low cost Driver Training to those of our community who are unable to afford it.
Our goal here is to be able to guarantee every Learner 5 hours of professional Driving Lessons. We will be offering Free “Triple S” sessions (starting, steering and stopping) for Learners and their Supervisors on a monthly basis.
Unfortunately, we do not have a safe and non-threatening area to train our young drivers.
Most people go out to Flinders Estate to give their Learners their first lesson. 25 years earlier this was a suitable area. But in the current climate with heavy vehicles and B-Doubles operating 24/7 this area is no longer suitable nor safe.
Triple S will be conducted in an open area (Car park etc.) with only Learners and their Supervisors in attendance.
All sessions will have a Licensed Driving Instructor providing free advice and support.
Defensive Driver Training is also one of our passions.
Unfortunately, we do not have a suitable area in the Shoalhaven to run this type of training.
We have been working with Council and our State Member to secure a suitable site for this training and will be conducting both “Roadcraft” and Defensive Driving training as soon as a suitable site is approved.
